Weekend?

What have you done this weekend? Did you get any studying done, reading, watching movies/TV, resting?

I've spent the weekend in my classroom. I've reorganized some things, cleaned up, gotten ready for the week, and mostly, I've worked on the yearbook. The first half is due in a week. I didn't realize that...so, I'm really struggling to get it done and make it fabulous. I've worked all day and so far, I absolutely love it. I'd give you a sneak peak, but I'm not exactly sure how. :-)

I hope you're getting ready for the week.

Students are doing well in Math. In Ms. Gilbert’s homeroom, students are beginning to analyze data. First we will look at mean, median, mode, and range as we collect data. Then, we will learn to display our data. In Miss Anders’s homeroom we are working on division and then will convert fractions, decimals, and percents.

Beginning Thursday, January 12, I will be available each morning beginning at 7:20 a.m. Students can come to my room Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday to play math games, practice class skills, or get extra help. On Wednesday and Fridays, we will be going to the computer lab to work on the site: firstinmath.com. Students were given login information for this. They may also go to this site from home. It provides excellent math practice (basic skills and beyond!).

In Science, we are finishing up our Energy unit this week. Our last topic is simple machines and work. We will learn what the word work actually means and discover how simple machines make our life easier. Students will have a quiz on simple machines on Friday. Next Tuesday, January 17, we will play a review game. Our Energy test will be on Wednesday, January 18. Beginning the 19th, we will start our study of Animals. We’ll first look at the classification of living things before we delve into discussing both vertebrates and invertebrates.

A New Year's Resolution

It's been a long time since I blogged. I guess the beginning of the school year went faster than I thought. And, it definitely was busier than I expected. Thank goodness for a break and getting refreshed.

The last eighteen weeks have brought weather, energy, order of operations, decimals, and everyone's favorite: fractions! We will not ever really leave fractions, but we will get a break beginning next week. We will still review decimals and fractions frequently. It's such an important sixth grade topic.

Now, onto the topic of this blog. I fully intend to keep this up. It is linked from my Wiki. The good news is that I can access it from home, school, and on the go with my phone.

My other resolutions (in no particular order):
-Leave school at a reasonable hour (before dark!).
-Mommy/Corbin movie nights once a week.
-Using even more technology in my classroom.
-Using my iPad in the classroom.
-Posting on the class blog regularly.
-Designing more projects for students to do using technology.
-Complete the yearbook.
-Stay positive, happy, and optimistic...even when I don't wanna... (I've been good at this for the school year, so I want to keep it up).

What are your resolutions?
